Information On Annual Ryegrass
ANNUAL RYEGRASS Lolim
Annual ryegrass (Italian Ryegrass) is a very popular grass for overseeding
Southern pastures to provide winter forage for cattle, horses, wildlife and other grazing animals. Annual Rye grass also makes a good cover crop for farmers and ranchers. It is a fact that
annual rye grass is one of the easiest to establish but utilitarian cover crops ther is and it provides nutrients back to the soil!
It is also used to overseed warm
season lawn grasses to provide a green, economical grass cover from fall
to spring. Annual is planted on millions of acres of both lawns and
pastures each year. Annual ryegrass works well planted with clovers and also
is good for planting with new lawns or pastures to provide fast
establishment, temporary erosion control, and a winter cover.
Ryegrass tolerates wet, poorly drained soil. High moisture requirement for
growth and germination.
Uses: Pasture, and
occasionally hay or silage.
